The LGBT Foundation, the world’s only token and blockchain initiative aimed at empowering the LGBT+ community, has appointed its first CEO, Sean Howell.
Europe’s official ministries of tourism are interested in making your travel to the continent an even more inviting one. Europe already enjoys some of the most friendly LGBT laws and policies in the world. Twenty three out of 28 EU countries support same-sex unions. Same-sex sexual activity is legal in all EU states, and discrimination in employment has been banned since 2000.
The ministers of tourism in Europe want to hear from us — the LGBTQ community.

ETC’s Members are the National Tourist Organisations (NTOs) of 33 European countries, including 24 EU member states.

Sharing your thoughts allows politicians, community organizations and businesses to understand what your biggest interests are and helps them to make sure LGBTs are counted.
Giving your voice will be reviewed and discussed in Brussels by Europe. This is a critical time in the world. Europe is leading its efforts to welcome LGBTQ people. This summer, in fact, Paris will host the Gay Games.
These ministers are ambassadors against discrimination, promote mutual understanding, fight stigma and advocate for social change.
“We will continue working for a better world in which neither terrorism nor homophobia are part of our reality," says Eduardo Santander, Executive Director of the ETC. “Through our recently signed partnership with IGLTA, we emphasize once more that the European travel sector supports inclusiveness and strongly condemns any acts that aim to instigate fear.”
Sharing your thoughts and plans should take less than 10 minutes, but will help leaders understand our community's needs more.

New web portal to headquarter content from the growing LGBTQ media company and social network
February 27, 2018 (SAN FRANCISCO, CA) – Today, Hornet, the world's premier gay social network and LGBTQ media company, announced the acquisition of the domain Hornet.com. The domain will allow users access to Hornet’s vast social network and original editorial content with a newly designed website — restyled for a seamless, user-friendly experience.
Hornet.com will replace the existing Hornetapp.com and provide a one-stop destination for users to both login to their accounts and stay up-to-date on the latest news and headlines that are important to the LGBTQ community.
As both a worldwide social network that allows users to follow each other via profiles and social feeds and as a digital magazine featuring original content by award-winning LGBTQ journalists, Hornet is differentiating itself as a leader in the media landscape. Under the newly revamped Hornet.com, users will have quick and easy access to breaking news, pop culture headlines and a curated LGBTQ guide to cities around the world. These features will continue to be available in the Hornet app as well, where users can make meaningful connections with guys who have similar interests. Furthering what it means to be an international LGBTQ media company, Hornet’s global editorial team offers original content in several languages including English, French, Spanish, Russian, Thai, Portuguese, Chinese and others.
"Hornet has been listening and taking feedback from our online community. What we heard is that they want media companies that speak directly to them, while also giving them a platform to have their own voice to share opinions and interests," says Sean Howell, Hornet's president and co-founder. "Bringing editorial and a social network under one roof is a new direction for media, and we are excited to be at the forefront. We expect to see others continue to follow our direction.”
With the newly acquired domain, Hornet is moving away from its older layout and continuing to position itself as a leader in LGBTQ media. Hornet now makes it easy to quickly gather news from around the world, while still maintaining the primary social media function that made it a global gay phenomenon. Guys can easily connect over commonly shared interests and stay in touch with their followers via comprehensive profiles.
"With our new domain name, we are cementing ourselves as a leader in LGBTQ media and growing Hornet’s brand presence by increasing our accessibility and the new user-friendly features the LGBTQ community has been looking for," says Matthew Smith, Hornet's SVP of Global Sales. "This change will help us amplify our already brilliant platform and create improved targeted campaigns and partnerships.”
About Hornet Networks
Hornet is the world's premier gay social network. Founded in 2011 with the mission to build the digital home for the gay community, Hornet has grown to 25 million total users by utilizing cutting-edge technology for its dating platform and producing original editorial content to connect a community around common interests. As LGBTQ topics are no longer "in the closet" in Chinese society, and Taiwan is well on its way to marriage equality, Hornet enlisted one of the most credible survey companies, Insight Xplorer, to understand how social and dating apps play a role in the lives of gay men.
In November 2017, a sample of nearly 700 interviewees between the ages of 18-50 who identified as gay, bisexual or curious underwent the online 15-minute survey.
Here are some of the survey's key findings:
- In Taiwan, the "penetration" of gay social and dating apps is an outstanding 90.4%.
- Among gay men in Taiwan, 81.9% consider these apps to the best way to meet other men.
- Among all gay apps, Hornet is the #1 gay app in the Taiwan market.
- Of Hornet's users, 60% use the app multiple times per day.
- When surveyed on why gay men use gay social and dating apps, they said: to consume relevant content (87.1%), because of an app's large user base (85.9%), and because the apps make their lives fun (83.6%).

Hornet Hits Milestones as Largest Global LGBTQ Media Company
Last year was an exceptional period of growth for Hornet culminating in several exciting milestones we are excited to share. As the #1 gay app in several markets around the world, including France, Russia, Turkey, Brazil, Taiwan and with rapid growth in the United States, Hornet exceeded 25 million users in 2017. This sizable user base combined with our compelling user experience is why we were able to serve 31 billion ad impressions and to facilitate the sending and receiving of 13 billion in-app messages by our users.
While these numbers are indicative of Hornet’s technological success, people are at the center of what we do. The essence of our mission is to support, inform and protect the LGBTQ community. That’s why we published nearly 7,000 LGBTQ-relevant stories in seven different languages last year. It’s also why we built the Know Your Status program which, in 2017, hit one million participants who are opting to share their HIV status thereby reducing stigma and building a supportive Hornet community for people living with HIV.
In 2017, these inspiring numbers affirmed the merit of our product and the strength of our amazing community. The year ahead holds even more promise and we are thrilled about where we are heading next as Hornet continues to be the world’s most engaged social network for the gay community as well as the largest media company to postivietly impact the lives of LGBTQ people globally.
